About Chitwan

Chitwan national park is the first national park in Nepal. It was established in 1973. This is rich in the Inner Terai lowlands of south central Nepal in Chitwan district. The park encompasses 932 sq km of subtropical forest consisting of grasslands, sal forest and riverine forest. In the north and west of the protected area the narayani-Rapti river system forms a natural boundary to human settlements. This park conserves more than 56 species of the mammals and 530  out of 861 species of birds so far found in Nepal. More than  123 species of butterflies are found here, out of some 645  recorded in Nepal. This park is especially renowned for the protection of endangered one horned rhinoceros and tigers. In 2014AD, 120 tigers were recorded along with members of 5 other families.
According to Chitwan national park, the main attraction is the Elephant breeding centre which is only at sauraha. It is one of the only 3 in the world. Here, even now you can feel the spirit of the time of great explores of the gone by days.
